NYC Blockchain Bootstrap

Synchronizing a blockchain wallet from scratch can be a time-consuming process, but the NYC community has a solution: a Blockchain Bootstrap! By downloading the latest bootstrap file, you can skip the tedious initial synchronization process and get your wallet up and running in minutes.

What is the NYC Blockchain Bootstrap?

The bootstrap file contains pre-synced blocks and chainstate folders from the NYC blockchain as of a specific date. This allows your wallet to bypass downloading and verifying all blocks from the beginning, saving time and resources.

The latest bootstrap file is 6.6 GB and reflects the state of the NYC blockchain as of the most recent update.

How to Use the NYC Bootstrap

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Download the Bootstrap File
Download the latest bootstrap from the official link:

  2. Backup Your Wallet
Before proceeding, always backup your wallet.dat file to ensure your funds are safe.
    • Locate your wallet’s data directory (see below for paths).
    • Copy the wallet.dat file to a secure location.
  3. Close Your NYC Wallet
Ensure your NYC wallet application is completely closed before making changes to the data directory.
  4. Locate the Wallet’s Data Directory
The data directory is where your wallet stores blockchain data. The location varies by operating system:
    • WindowsC:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\NYC\
    • Linux~/.NYC/
    • Mac OS~/Library/Application Support/NYC/
  5. Replace the Blocks and Chainstate Folders
    • Extract the downloaded bootstrap .zip file.
    • Copy the blocks and chainstate folders from the bootstrap.
    • Replace the existing blocks and chainstate folders in the wallet’s data directory.
  6. Restart Your Wallet
Open the NYC wallet application. The wallet will use the provided data and quickly sync with the network from the latest block in the bootstrap file.
  7. Verify Sync Status
Once your wallet loads, check the synchronization status at the bottom of the wallet interface. It should indicate that you are up to date.

Why Use the NYC Bootstrap?

  • Faster Syncing: Save hours or even days compared to syncing from scratch.
  • Reliable Data: The bootstrap is provided by the community and reflects the accurate state of the blockchain.
  • User-Friendly: Simply replace the folders and restart your wallet!
